I don't see any reason why China cannot retrofit Nuclear Boilers to replace the oil firing boilers in the future.. When everything work out fine and smoothly.. Then nuclear power can be retrofit into the Fujian after all USA aircaft carrier are ancient technology steam ship. Unlike like UK or India that uses Turbine Engine like jet engine for power than nuclear cannot ve retrofitted. China is smart to use steam for future Nuclear retrofit. Even Liaoning and Shandong csn be retrofit with Nuclear power. After all China have nuclear powered Submarine and China are capable to build nuclear power plant.

I think the level of ship design is definitely superior to the Nimitz, not to mention the J-15 suppressing the F-18, J-35 pressuring the F-35, and the new early warning aircraft being much stronger than the E-2 of years ago. Moreover, their long-range missiles are far ahead. Not to mention their electronic warfare dominance over the US Navy. Once combat capability is formed, they have the upper hand against the Ford. Can't imagine what the next 4th aircraft carrier will be like.

Learning how to operate a carrier is something that "book learning" can only take you so far. The sea is a fickle woman & she can take a nice day & turn it into your worst nightmare in no time flat. And when the ocean is going wild & you've got aircraft in the air who want to come home, things get dicey very quickly. So far, none of the chinese carriers have ventured very far from home. If they truly want a real "blue water" navy, they're going to have to learn how to launch & land aircraft in all types of weather. The "enemy", in this case that is us, the US Navy, does not attack only in nice weather. They're going to have to learn to be an all weather navy. Otherwise, these expensive new shiny ships will become artificial reefs very quickly.
